How do I get programs to appear in DMS Explorer without using select-button to install them?

I have the programs on the MC. But they don't appear in Explorer.

Have you updated the mc0:boot/menu.txt file? It's in a form of:

Title to appear in the list|mc0: path/file.elf (don't include the space after mc0:, it's there just because the forum software otherwise shows it as a smiley.)

The explorer files doesn't appear in mc0:boot/ but instead it appears as "\BOOT\BOOT.ELF" and "\BOOT\MENU.TXT" in the root folder of MC. It's not possible to delete them.

I made my own MENU.TXT and placed it in mc0:BOOT/MENU.TXT but it did nothing.

    I have DMS3+

Oh, you have to modify boot.elf a bit. In hexeditor you search for the word "BOOT" and IIRC the whole line (the first line with the word BOOT in it) there was to be replaced with "mc0:BOOT/MENU.TXT".

Then you can delete that old \BOOT from the PS2s own Browser (that corrupted save) and create plain BOOT and copy BOOT.ELF and MENU.TXT there using ExecFTPs.

    Which boot.elf should I hexedit?

Edit: I hexedited EXPLORER.ELF from the DMS install disc
    (as used in INSTALL.CFN
    "COPY cdrom0:\EXPLORER.ELF;1 mc0:\BOOT\BOOT.ELF").

I changed "mc0:\BOOT\MENU.TXT" to "mc0:BOOT/MENU.TXT" and filled the last blank (one letetr shorter) with hex 00.

DMS Explorer loads up but ends with INSTALL FAILED.

If you use ExecFTPs to transfer files to the MC you don't have to burn Explorer into a CD.

Use SjUncrunch to unpack explorer.elf (or boot.elf from MC) and hexedit the unpacked file. Then either pack it or transfer it unpacked to mc0:BOOT/BOOT.ELF and then you can add programs through ExecFTPs and with notepad or something write your own MENU.TXT.

Grat, but how about doing the same thing, installing Keylauncher, on a V10 DMS3+ without BBA, I mean only using CD-Rs.
Can u plese help me on this. Something like a idiot's guide to keylauncher.

Another idiot question, is it necessary for a DMS chipped machine to use CDGenPS2 to make the CD images and to "LBA Fix" them?

I got my machine chipped a few weeks ago so I'm quite new to the homebrew scene.

    Thanx,
    k.
