Thread: AR Max Evo emulator performance?

  1. #1 AR Max Evo emulator performance?
    jvm Guest
Anyone tried out the Action Replay Max Evo Genesis/Megadrive emulator? Since it's based on PGEN, I'd like to know if the performance has been bumped up in the process. If it's not nearly full-speed with sound, then I'm not interested.

I'm still waiting for my registration email for the codejunkies forum, and I'll be looking there when it comes in.

Thanks for any testimonials you might have to share.

The emulator is just pgen with some things ripped out of it like the credits.

Sure, I don't mind if it's licensed. I just want to know if it's better.

Until the Earthworm Jim 2 bug is fixed, it will be of less value to me than it is currently. Still, a very nice piece of work (and I've told sjeep that myself).

I strongly doubt Dan Potter gave Nick the ability to sell the src in the special license issued to him.

If you want to take a look at the AR Max version of pgen you can just download the max media creator software. Pgen is bundled with it. Just look for the autoexec.elf contained in the installation directory.

Dan Potter is the creator of Generator, the GPL emu that PGen is based on.

Ok, I downloaded and grabbed the autoexec.elf and renamed it and booted with my swap disc. It has exactly the same compatibility problems I've had with PGEN 1.2:
    - Desert Strike: Return to the Gulf starts but won't get to game itself
    - Earthworm Jim 2 has the same "can't jump" bug
    - Castlevania: Bloodlines is missing the funky pixel effect on the title screen
    - Sonic is in front of the graphics on the title screen of Sonic 1, instead of in front of most, but behind another part.

I wonder if sjeep plans to work on PGEN any more. The EWJ2 bug is supposed to be a very difficult one to find, but I don't know about the others.
