Are anyone interested in participating in making a 2D retro game?

Anyone with skills, or learning

• Music
• Sound effects
• level and graphic design
• Feel like participating in the programming*
• ... and eventually testing*

The aim is to make a minor homebrew game for PS2.

Giana Sisters / Super Mario / SuperFrog / Sonic -like project,
or 2D platformer in other words.

I am especially interested in people with p2p network gaming experience.

Anyone?

*requirement: Must be able to run PS2 homebrew via Swap Magic, Chip, M R Brown aka independence exploit, or similar

In order to run the output of this project from a PS3, you will need a 4 USB port PS3, and Swap Magic 3.6+ or 3.8 aka coder

I'm down. With over 10 years of photoshop experience, I'm sure I can help out someway. Also interested in eventual testing, of course.

Any clue to theme? I would like wizzards and pumpkins something along the lines of older album art from the metal band Helloween.

But of course there could be different sets of skinning for different levels

Are you good with defining concepts? I mean would you be able to come up with a template? For background, goodies and baddies that is.

What are your options device wise? I am thinking of making it run only from mc as executable and levels from samba share.

For homebrew games, I think the best option is not use samba, but run from mass (usb) device.

I am creating a retro game for PS2 myself (http://rockbot.upperland.net/) based on Megaman. Because of thaqt I do not much free time to help out, but if you need, I can help by giving some tips and advices.

Good luck, it is great to see retro games for PS2 raising. I believe PS2 homebrew will grow a lot this year. I even think that a lot of people are willing to pay for PS2 games (if they pay for downloaded content, why PS2 owners that are not yet in next-gen can't?) :)

i can help out on many different levels.
i can be extremely suggestive on themes and mazes.
i can edit sounds to any sort of likings.
plot/story scripting i could be of great help on that side also.

i would be more than happy to be able to help out as that we share common goals and i think this project is a good opportunity to start something decent here.

I'm not sure, I can work around most themes you guys come up with. I'll see if I can pump out a few sprites or something today. I'd forgotten to check this thread again since I'd been job hunting, sorry.

Not the greatest, but I do alright at my work to come up with interesting things. As long as you have a basic idea of what you want, I can usually make it happen.

I have a modded v12 with HDCombo, so I have basically all the features you'd want in a PS2. USB, MemCard, HDD, Network and DVD.

It's a good idea to make it MemCard executable, but it also wouldn't be a bad choice to make it USB launchable since a lot of people like to go that route.

Also, I'd like (if possible) to make levels expandable. For example, Ocarina of Time and other works like that (I know we're working with 2D, but I'm just using an example) were originally supposed to use a HDD expansion pack of the N64 to allow expanded maps, new baddies and such. (search N64DD if you doubt me)

Might be a bit hard for him to respond. I have gojohnny/barf's accounts so locked up, they are essentially useless.
