I was just wondering a friend of mine online brought up the topic of has anyone played MW2 lately and I said not in awhile as they were all cheating. He said they are online still cheating.
Wouldn't they have to be running CFW and apply hacks to MW2 and if so why isn't SOny banning them?

No they dont have to be running CFW to hack MW2... IIRC you can mess with that game via save files.

Yes found this out later but wouldn't sony beable to tell they have hacked save files. they seem to know what people have on their PS3's
No logic in this. It's ok for people to ruin online play of mw2 and sony does nothing about it but will do anything to make sure you don't have CFW on you PS3 and you are legit with just homebrerw apps and backup of games you own on the HD. You would think they would also want to protect the Game maker as MW2 is not playable online anymore.
We should all request a refund for MW2 as I bought it for online play and not the offline play also invested an extra 30.00 for map packs making this game cost about 100.00
Oh I forgot Sony will come back and say you expected us to keep this game cheat free for as long as you own the game?

sony wouldn't be able to tell they had hacked save files because IW designs the save files for their game.
IW can probably tell tho

Just to clear up the confusion a little: it was possible to cheat even way before any CFW was released, it never was a requirement. One of the ways is indeed through modifying save game files, and another one was running a proxy on your PC that modifies the data between your PS3 and the game servers.
Sony just wants people to think that people using CFW == cheaters, which obviously isn't true. But it's working, as you just yourself demonstrated.
