Question regarding Sony Email Notice
Question regarding Sony Email Notice –
So like the many others around I got the notice from Sony telling me:
"A circumvention device and/or unauthorized or pirated
software currently resides on your PlayStation(R)3 system."
The situation I have run into is that I used the jailbreak months ago on my fat model PS3 (I did go online once or twice). I got a new PS3 around that time from a TV purchase and decided to swap to the new slim model but using the HDD from my old fat PS3 that was modded. It did format and all that good stuff and I updated to the latest OFW (and updates since then), I decided that PSN was worth it for me (at that time). The old fat model was then updated as well to OFW and sold to a friend.
My theory is that I got the notice from Sony since I logged into PSN/it checked my unit way back when it was jailbroken, not that it has found something as of now on my new PS3. I would appreciate any thoughts you may have as I am sure others are in the same boat. Feel sorry for my friend who might possibly get his console banned since I modded it at one time lol.
As a side note, since I work in a similar field I decided to call Sony and discuss this email but as you can imagine the person on the line knew nothing other than "something is on the harddrive" and gave no indication of what it was or how to remove it or if I were to replace the HD as he suggested to buy a new one if I would be safe. Basically this is being done from the "back office" as he put it and that their front line support has no clue/anyway to deal with it.
Just to point out this email did not scare me to goto OFW, I decided ages ago to do so since I prefer to play games with my friends online in the local area who had no desire to mod.
Thanks for any input.
So you got that message like any other one...
Hum, something interests me through your post...
You told your ps3 is a new one with the Fat's HDD (which was formatted) ; but has it been right now hacked?
Plus, I imagine you got connected on the PSN through your 3.41 JB'd PS3, so Sony Logged your actions ; and got "guilty" for an old cause...
Bah, first thing you would do is to ignore that mail... You updated it, so $ony's Rou Rou ( ) campaign will get another one happy... (And their Client's service are usually made of incompetent people so... Who to trust?)
Speaking of facepalms, one of my cousins got that message but his ps3 has no illegal things, it was a brand new one... kinda weird huh?
My new PS3 has never been modded/jail broken but the HDD before it was formatted had been. I did log into PSN on my old fat PS3 that was modded. Both have since been formatted and unmodded (long before this whole mess started with sony). So I am quite sure they just logged me that few times I logged in while using the modded fat ps3.
Question remains if they will ban just for attempting to have done this whatsoever, even in the past. Let alone why they indicate that my system "still" has some unauthorized software etc on it which they cant clarify lol. I wonder if formatting a HDD was enough to erase the history of being modified/jailbroken?
Pretty sure its a scare tactic but still annoys me, and I gave the guy at Sony a pretty hard time just for some fun (didnt attack him personally). I made my own choice to go back to OFW and they are still harassing me. Your cousin on the other hand has been shafted worse if he has never even attempted these methods.
Sony must be flagging anyone's user account who at any one time used any jailbreak / cfw, They are checking old logs and running a scan basically, So they have been spying on users since the beginning. I don't think it is even related to running anything on a CFW either as it has time and time again proven that sony is just detecting you are using a mod in general and making all modders out to be pirates even if you never pirated or ran a backup manager.
Puff Puff Pass!
