Hey guys. Since XLink only connects wired, I have my laptop connecting wirelessly to my router, and a wired bridge running to the PS3. XLink says PS2/PS3 configured" but I can't join/host any games. I read that I should forward ports, but I don't know which IP to forward (PS3, PC or laptop) Anyone who has gotten XLink successfully working, can you please help? Thanks.

make sure you are running xlink 7.3, not 7.4: the last is told to be incompatible with ps3.

forward port 30000 of the computer that is running xlink kai.

once xlink is up and running, go to the cod black ops arena, ONLY THEN turn on your ps3, start cod black ops, go to multiplayer, lan, and if you don't see any hosts, host yourself a game.

after it starts, press select button, and you'll see who's connecting or connected to you.

Got it working! I decided not to try forwarding ports and put both ports in the kai configuration as 0. I also made sure UPnP was running and it worked! Next project: get it working directly wireless to the router. Carrying around a 17" laptop isn't the best solution.

Dont use wireless unless you are running wireless N. It will be too slow and you wont find any games.

I don't believe it is about the bandwidth. I believe it is the fact that your PS3 must see and obtain DHCP information from your Xlink PC before your router does so. So, the reason not to use WiFi is because then your PS3 has to connect to your router first, and so it will end up obtaining it's address from there instead of xlink, which in turn means it isn't going to work. If you want it to work this way, then you have to specially configure your router by either disabling DHCP on it (which forces you to set static IPs on everything else... not convenient) or a more advanced configuration based on your PS3s MAC address.

This is why Xlink's recommended configuration is to have your console wired directly to a second NIC on your xlink PC. While that isn't the only way to get it done, it's the most sure fire way to get the PS3 to obtain its IP configuration from xlink so it will properly work.

In my case I don't need to do that, because I have a wired network with a couple of switches between the PS3 and router, and fortunately my PS3 gets the DHCP offer from my PC before the router when xlink is running.
