Hello all. I'm sick of Sony's draconian methods and how the industry as a whole is holding our games hostage on locked down proprietary platforms. I enjoy the freedom of installing unsigned code and am looking forward to giving Other-OS a try as well thanks to Rebug's new option. However, I don't want to give up my PS3 as a game machine entirely.

While I understand there is no current way to access PSN and play games online, this is frustrating but doesn't bother me as much as other content. Many games have patches as well as DLC available from the PSN store that greatly enhance that which is on the disc. I've only been following the scene here since 3.60 with moderate depth, so I just wanted to ask if it was relatively easy on a modded CFW 3.55 to find and install game patches, DLC, PSN games etc. manually, thus having the full feature set of a given game, save being able to go online?

For the record, I'm not trying to access content I'm not entitled to legally or where to find it, but the technical availability of installing patches, downloadable content, and PSN games. I am thinking of getting a cheap "online" secondhand PS3 and not sully my 60gb Phat model, and download the patches/PSN content on that one, but I don't know if its currently possible to package up and transfer it from my "online" 3.61 OFW PS3 to my "offline" 3.55 kmeaw (Rebug?) PS3.

    Thanks.

Well, you will be able to install game updates easily, as long as the updates don't require 3.56 or higher.
As for dlc, etc, you will not be able to transfer it from your online ps3 to your cfw ps3, it's simply not possible. There have been some demos that will install on cfw fine, but since the release of cfw, even demoes are needing PSN activation. There's nothing really we can do about that.

Yes, A 3.55 "jb" (cfw) is available, no >3.55 "jb" or cfw yet.
Yes, A 3.55 downgrade is available. But not to lower than stock firmware! (What it came with)
No >3.55 downgrade is out there yet.

Ahh, thanks for information. That's really too bad. There's no way to say, pull them onto a PC or something and edit the DLC or PSN title to be viable on the CFW PS3? Or something doable on the CFW PS3 itself to decrypt or spoof activation?

Bah, that's really unfortunate if there's no way to enjoy the game beyond what's basically on the disc. At least updates work, but I do enjoy getting access to additional DLC and buying indie PSN titles. I think this is the last Sony console I purchase. When I picked it up it was a "do anything" OtherOS loading machine, but increasingly draconian behavior has locked down everything. I bet their horrendous security breech never would have happened if they allowed CFW to connect and play online. I really hope that all console developers finally "get it" to simply let CFW go online and stop trying to fight piracy based on imaginary losses.

Well maybe it will be possible in the future, but it definately isn't now.

Although, there are several games that have dlc on the disk already and normally require PSN for activation, and you can trick the ps3 into using it, but it doesn't work for all games.
