Internet Speed question
Internet Speed question –

I hear people saying there's a trick through the DNS stuff that allows them to use more of their connection to the PS3, could somebody point me to where this info is please as my MBPS isn't the greatest for my gaming and such so anything that could help at all would be greatly appreciated thanks.

lolwut? You can't use more "internet/bandwidth" than what your ISP provides.

I heard there was stuff you could do that'd help open up the PS3 so it'd connect better and stuff. I don't know if it's port forwarding or if there's more to it than that.

No. What you have is what you get...
You can only slow down your connection to your PS3 via router's QOS (Quality of Service) settings or by connecting through an external proxy, that is, one off of your local network.
You can achieve maximum speed based on what your ISP allows you (bandwidth/data plans, etc.) by making your PS3 the only system on the network.
As far as online gaming goes, you don't need that much. The data the PS3 shows you is an approximation, and in MBPS (megabits per second). Eight (8) megabits = 1 megabyte. A more accurate test is available here.

But i will say Ping matters, You want the lowest ping you can get for online gaming. If you have a high ping then you will lag and thus get killed easier in online games as others who aren't lagging or have a lower ping will have the advantage. You can test your ping at many places online or pingtest.net I also use a different dns then my isp dns and it has dropped my pings as my isp's dns sucks balls, aka 1mb frontiernet dsl service and no other options in my area, 40 a month for that and 1mb is slow is crap. I noticed in COD MW2 on pc on cracked servers i get around 60 to 30 ms ping on a lot of servers

Nah. The only way to get more speed than your isp gives you is to hack the modem, but that's illegal and could get you banned from your isp if caught. Portforwarding does help, especially for online gaming and possibly for letting the ps3 download things faster from the store. What those people are talking about with connecting better is probably connecting the ethernet cord from the ps3 directly to the pc, but that's just for ftp transferring and it won't have any effect on download/upload speed.

so would upgrading my internet from 1.5mbps to 3.0 mbps not improve my game quality at all? as in games such as MW2 etc. I'm fairly decent so even with the stuttering caused by lag I do decently, however to play how everybody wants to play I figured if I could get the most out of my connection and upgrade it perhaps it would help me out.

If you are having lag problems with a 1.5Mb/s connection, you have some problems. I have managed to play online games using a 0.5Mb/s connection for a good 2 years and hardly ever lagged.
