After reading a few posts about the knee buckling orgasm you will experience when you update to OFW 3.56 and save yourself and your beloved PSN account from the abyss. I had a thought.....
I can understand Sony needing to protect the integrity of their network and not have people cheating in games and ruining it for others (like jtag) - they should ban if people are doing this. What I don't understand from a business point of view is - "we're not making enough money from these pirates.....let's cut them off from the only avenue we have left for them to spend money with us". (Like Xbox drive flashing) I know they hope people will go legit but I wonder how many really do.
Microsoft did not have a ban wave last year, I wonder if it's in the pipeline (ap2.5) or they took a hit last time realising removing people from their profitable Live service and/or maybe into the arms of their competior, may end up costing them money in the long run. "Oh well at least they are paying £30 a year for Xbox Live and buying stuff online".

    Oh and by the way.....

Do people really care about all that other crap on these consoles like LOVEFiLM Net Flix and these music things?

It isnt the enduser (people who play back-ups/cheat/use PSN) they are worried about, they are trying to make the devs happy. If sony condones homebrew (which will lead to piracy) then the devs see it as sony does not care about if people pay for their games and devs will stop supporting their device. Plus the minimal amount of people that actually do pirate/homebrew in the end will not make enough of a difference in sony's pocketbook really.

Surely the solution would be to have a registration code such as EA sports have.

On my Fifa 11 you have to enter a special code to play online, otherwise you can purchase a new code.

Surely by banning people who just want to play their games discless (Even Microsoft let you do that) preventing people from playing PSN only hurts Sony and the Devs pockets.

How much Cash will they loose when the new black ops maps come out on PSN? I have purchased every map pack available on the COD series, and now im faced for the first time from being prevented from purchasing the first strike pack.

I can live without that, but can Sony and Activision afford to live without all the revenue they would have had?

A handful of people use cfw anyway so I doubt the loss will put a dent anywhere.

didn't quite some people go 'legit' after the bans and the PSN restriction that 3.56 brought?

and some even claimed they bought a 2nd PS3 ...

so, i do think the POSSIBLE additional revenue from people going 'legit' and people buying a 2nd PS3 outweighs the revenue from those few PSN sales, which they end up losing.

Microsoft haven't banned flashed consoles since 2009 so maybe they decided to stop doing it already, or they can't detect it anymore

Yeah because offline gets so boring after a while, I bet MS where buzzing about this because I bet a few users are going to switch.
I have a banned 360 and 2 LIVE ones (I keep one offline), and a CFW PS3. I would buy a new 360 if I got banned because there cheap but no way a PS3.

not all cfw uses cheat though, I have owned black ops since queuing at midnight at my local games outlet in november, I will buy the next one BUT next time i will only buy it for my xbox (i bought b/o's on both consoles) because im no likely able to use it.

I'd rather use my PS3 as a Bluray Player/media player/offline games/picture viewer/snes/megadrive/amiga/catch up tv and use my XBOX for it's sole purpose Online Gaming!

PSN have lost a £10 sale here straight away as I was going to buy the maps AGAIN on the ps3 (as i've already got them on my xbox ) but thats unlikely to happen

ahhh well, no love loss here! I think drizzt's program name has a very fitting title F**KPSN!
