Custom PSN? –
02-26-2011,04:27 AM
Every now and then you see people suggesting one to make a completely custom PSN server so even people with banned consoles could make it online. It would be an interesting project, yes, but it would still not really help anyone play online and there's one simple reason for that: the actual game servers have their data routed through and initiated by PSN and as you can't make the real game servers accept connections from a custom PSN server it would really accomplish you nothing.
Now, what would a custom PSN server really accomplish?
1) For one, it could allow your games to check for updates just as it does on the real thing, just have the server point to Sony's update servers.
2) It could be used for storing trophy data. Though, your trophy data would NOT sync to Sony servers.
3) You could maintain a friends list and chat with them.
It really wouldn't accomplish anything more though, and as I said, online play still wouldn't work any better than it does now. Sure, SOME game servers might accept connections from anywhere and wouldn't actually check where they come from, but it would be too easy for them to patch that to only accept the real Sony PSN to initiate the connection that it would be a waste of time to even try.

Maybe you would like to feedback to the guys at ps kinect.
Search for them on google, i can't seem to link it. Looks like a taboo word on psx-scene lol
Nvm, i'll link to another forum that contains the info. http://www.nextgenupdate.com/forums/...ct-thread.html

They appear to be US based. So Sony will take them to court to shut the service down based on reverse engineering proprietary protocols. This shouldn't, in a sane world, be possible, but you only have to look at Blizzard and bnetd to see what can happen.
Secondly, MS could sue them for using the word "Kinect". Which is just dumb of them to use, IMHO.
