Bypassing Bans... –
02-17-2011,05:26 AM
So now people are being banned from PSN, can it be bypassed? I have a theory on what happens when we login:
- console ID gets sent to Sony's auth servers on PSN login
- Sony do a cross-check with your console ID and MAC address in their database
- If they match up then you will be allowed to login otherwise FAIL
If this is the case then I can say we are most likely NOT going to get on PSN unless you have a legit PS3 with OFW - it will be virtually impossible to find a console ID and it's matching MAC address. I think our only real option is to create our own PSN which isn't that hard to do as we can sniff what packets are being sent to Sony's servers with a MILM attack and just replicate them..
Thoughts?

What if I buy a console just to get that info and then send it back to the store?

That would work for a while, until Sony ban that one.

What's this obsession people have with MAC addresses?
In terms or actual network traffic, the MAC address never gets outside of your local network.
And I haven't noticed it being deliberately sent to the servers in other traffic. Would seem a bit weird, when they're already getting the console id...
I agree with your conclusion though, there are multiple ways that Sony can detect this sort of stuff, and we can only play cat and mouse games for so long if they're quick to ban anyone detected "hacking"
A PSN alternative is certainly possible. The only problem I can see is if Sony sue whoever runs it. That would not be cool!

I just read my post back and
Of course the MAC would need to be sent to Sony for them to verify it, and it doesn't. So there goes that theory. They must just ban by console ID then and in that case it's a little easier...

Oh don't worry about it, it's just I find it odd that MAC addresses get thrown around all over the place in comments here.... just one of those things I suppose.
For all I know the ps3 *could* send its MAC address to Sony in a message. It would be weird, but it could happen, and then they could do a comparison on MAC and console ID.... I guess I just don't see it

Sony use more than Console ID to ban you - and thats a FACT! (possibly)

we could rent servers, ask for little money (50 cents per month) which everyone would and could pay and create a simmilar environment. I bet lots of (banned) people would pay 50cent to 1 €...
