about mk updates –
04-27-2011,11:31 PM
It turns out that this game is updated only (excluding patches) via internet because ntr studios use a special system in order to balance things from time to time. The problem is that such updates can only get via psn and as we have noticed, with cfw that's impossible.
Without these updates the game is completely wortless and unbalanced specially if you compete in fighters.
The updates (not patches) are saved in the game data, therefore I would ask if it is possible to get those updates via pkg or some other method, since for this game these updates are critical and without psn I can't figure out how to get them. I'm not talking about patch 1.01, I'm talking about updates mades with the special real time system update that this game has.
I hope someone can respond and we can find together a solution to this serious problem.

I dont think you have any idea what your talking about. You dont need to update the game at all. I have beat MK9 and I haven't had any problems with the game play. Anyway you dont need to log on to PSN to get game updates just have your PS3 connected to the internet and when you start a game it will ask you to update (If you want to) that's it. If you want game updates as a PKG go here PSX Store they always have the new updates

Not really as big of a problem as you are making it out to be. I'm sure Netherelm is aware of the fact a large number of people do not play on PSN and could also put the rebalancing in the updates, but who knows since PSN has been down.
Wait until PSN has even been activated again before asking questions about online features on a game that came out the day PSN shut down. People expect too many things handed to them with regards to hacked consoles. It's simple really,if you want online and/or on the fly updates, become a dev, wait, or go to OFW. If you want homebrew and backup managers stay on CFW but know newer games will not work until things change. No amount of asking why things don't get done will make them happen any faster.
If you are that concerned about the on the fly updates go to OFW, don't expect everything to be given to you simply because you feel you deserve it.
/end rant

Reason: Sabin brought up a good point, edited to reflect that.

While I do agree with your rant in general, I don't completely agree this quoted part. Game updates will start requiring 3.60? I find that very hard to believe, since NO update yet has EVER increased the firmware requirement. Gran Turismo updates still only require 3.50+ -- you'd think Sony would have shifted those to 3.60, wouldn't you?
I think it's fair to say that if a game is launched with 3.60 encryption, then its updates will be 3.60 also, but if a game is launched with lower encryption, then there's absolutely no reason whatsoever to believe the updates will be any different (if, indeed, they're not lower - as some games are)

Fair enough, I do admit to not fully researching updates before I made my statements, I had just kind of assumed that updates changed the FW requirement of the game. However, if it's possible, (which I kind of doubt after thinking about it) I bet Sony will get on that after they clean up the PSN mess.

I know usually this is the way the updates go and that makes sense. I was just wondering if someone could clarify why it was possible for 3.55 users to install the 1.01 patch that came out for Mortal Kombat? This just kind of boggles me since it was a 3.56 game.
I mean Im happy that I was able to I just dont understand how it worked or why Sony would put out a patch to a 3.56 game with a lower firmware requirement. Anyone?
@Mega4000 - Didn't like my post on the first thread you started, so you decided to open up a new thread, aye (im not really canadian i just like sayin Aye!)...Yea, sorry wasn't trying to be mean but you always see a lot of people on these forums whining and bitching about "no PSN" or "I cant play new games" and it gets old. Especially when any user needs to take into consideration the sacrifices that are made when you decide to go CFW. Either be happy with CFW or go to OFW, or get a 2nd PS3. This is the breakdown.

As far as I know, my ps3 has never had an undetected error.

There have been a couple of releases that come with lower FW-requirement updates (Mortal Kombat and Motorstorm Apocalypse spring to mind) but that's it. There has never been an update that INCREASES the requirement, so I doubt there will be.

that's what I'm talking about. They do mini updates (not patches) while they want via psn. Those mini updates get stored on the game data so maybe it would be possible to convert the whole data in a pkg.
We know what you're talking about, but since PSN is down and there aren't "balance changes" yet... there's nothing anyone can do.
