I finallyyyyyyyyy got mine working. This is what I did.
I restored my computer to delete everything since this is my media computer, so nothing serious for me.
First thing I did was install charles and what ever java stuff needed for it. From there, I opened it and then closed it.
I then got the certification from charles and changed it to CA24.cer. ( make sure you can see hidden files and extensions.) Make sure it says CA24.cer and not CA24.cer.crt
I then took asbestos, and hit X, let it run, it told me run patch level 2. I didn't do it, I went into comgenis awesome file manager. I took my CA24.cer and over wrote the old CA24 in the dev_rwflash folder. When you do it, make sure your taking the left side ( your flash drive which has CA24) and copying it to the right side. Read and it should say (flash 006 to dev _rwflash/data/cert/CA24. )
It will say copying and then it will be done. When its done, press the PS button on your control and go into the desktop of your ps3. Then shut the ps3 off and turn it back on. Leave that alone, and time to go back on the comp. Go to charles now.
Make sure the text file that comes with the link in this thread inside your C part of your driver. Nothing else. So go to local C on your pc, and drop in there. No folders, nothing. Open the file and edit it for your region. CHANGE EVERYTHING. DO NOT GO HALF ASS ON IT. IF YOUR IN US, CHANGE US FOR EVERYTHING. CHANGE UK TO US 87 to 84 DUK01 to DUS AND THE UK AT THE END TO US. For UK people do nothing. For other people change it.
from there, close charles and reopen it, then open the ps3 DNS on your computer. Go onto your ps3 and put your PRIMARY DNS as your PC's IP. the SECONDARY IS YOUR ROUTER. You can tell what your router is by going into a webbrowser and typing it in the numbers, and if it askes you to put in a user name and password, then that's it. If you don't know your router or PC IP address is then go on here
How do I determine my computer's IP address? - Knowledge Base
on your ps3, set up the DNS PRIMARY AND SECONDARY. DO NOT SET PROXY. ITS NOT NEEDED AND POINTLESS. Your going to have to keep charles on to use the PSN and you can't since charles closes after 30 mins. Hit test connection and it should work.
Make sure you did NOT touch charles. Do not have the webbrowser open on your computer. Do not change the port number from 8888 in charles. That is why people are getting the error in the first place.
One thing. MAKE SURE MAKE SURE MAKE SURE YOU DID THE CA24.cer correctly. I did that step over when I thought I did it and now I'm on CoD. Also, make sure you put US for your text. that's where the fail comes if you don't. Reboot your ps3 when you do the CA24. When you do the test. Reboot the PS3 and turn it back on.
I was on this since saturday, so If ya need some help. PM and I'll forward you my email, because I'm not going to be on this since I got PSN
From my experience this fails to work with WIRELESS!!
And i tested this with a WIRED conection and it works and online works great evey time!!
Just trying to help all out having problems. also remember to place CA24.cer in the charles folder too!! will save alot of problems.

Oh, I have been using Wired this whole time >_> But My cousin who has done the exact same steps on a totally different computer, in another house used wireless, same crap for 3.41 users.
Placed CA24.cer in the charles docs folder along side it's .crt file. I also removed the .crt file from charles and tried it with just CA24.cer.
When you say charles, you mean the folder with the config file ?
Wont work wireless for me, i have to go wired, so maybe same problem for others. anyway works great here now.

make sure you put all the files into the right folder!
check all your charles configs manually
make sure to put you region EVERYWHERE!!!!! (uk,us,eu,...)
check you ps3-updatelist.txt!!
Use your PC IP as primary DNS
Use your router IP as secondary DNS
PS3 IP: 10.0.0.200
PC IP: 10.0.0.10
1st DNS: 10.0.0.10
2nd DNS: 10.0.0.138
check in charles "access control settings" under "proxy"
in my case its: 10.0.0.0/24
i think 4 the most of you it should be 192.168.0.0/24 or 192.168.1.0/24
works great thanks very much cant wait to try out v4
anyone having probs make sure charles finds the config properly it doesn't always and caused me some problems i just c/p it a few times until charles picked it up.
also if charles keeps asking to allow just add 192.168.1.* to locations in proxy setting ssl
Would be cool if someone could answer this quick question, "Where do you put the CA24.cer file, with the .crt file ? Do I replace the .crt file with the CA24.cer file ? Do I chuck the CA24.cer file with the config file in the charles document ? What do I do ?" Also, whats there to change in the charles config file ? It has "*" for wildcard searches for your region. Nothing to change.
Okay, I've done everything here 3 times to make sure
First time i had problems it asked to update but that was because it said port 8888 was in use so i changed it in charles (bad idea)
2nd time reinstalled charles + config was getting no response from charles (Forgot to disable my firewall on my pc)
3rd time now Everything is perfect charles asked me to allow or deny i hit allow ( An error has occurred. You have been signed out of PLaystation network 80710A06)
What to do?
Edit: Found the reason my cert failed so i grabbed the cert from this thread

charles config ... close charles. go to users /your users name / app data /
roaming / charles .. delete charles .config.
above where the charles config was, go to data (it was right above the charles config) / backup ... now you will see charles - 3.5.2 backup. config .. delete that too.
now go back with your mouse (hit he back button on the arrow) and go back to where the two folders say backup and certs. Go into certs and you will get some thing that says some lets and numbers. Delete that.
Go into trash, and empty it. Now take the charles config from this thread you get from the folder and put it back into roaming / charles. Then get out
Go back into charles, hit psnDSN and log into the psn.
