Hello guys, I have a slim ps3 160gb that came with 3.41 and I want to swap the internal hdd with a bigger one. I'm on kmeaw 3.55 with latest multiman version. What are the right steps to swap the internal hdd?
You first need to get a 5400rpm or 7200rpm 2.5" SATA HDD. Then you need to back up all your data (trophies, saved games, downloaded contents, music, videos and pictures) to an external HDD. Plus if you have backed up games do the same if u want to add them to the new HDD (better to FTP it to your computer). Then remove your old HDD (on Fat: remove the HDD door from the side and remove the screw holding the HDD to the body and pull it out, on Slim: turn the PS3 upside-down and open the small door. Remove the blue screw and slide out the HDD door. Use the handle to pull out the HDD). Then remove the cage that holds the HDD and fit it to the new HDD. Push the HDD in and start the console. It will automatically promote you to format the HDD. After you are done, plug the recovery HDD and put your data on the PS3. Firmware will be intact so no need to worry about it. Install multiMAN (don't forget BDEMU) and FTP back your games. Then enjoy.
Thanks, but are you sure that the firmaware will be intact? Should I reflash the 3.55 OFW first and then swap the hdd? Or should I keep kmeaw cfw on a stick just in case? I'm a little confused because I've read some posts that said that after I swap the hdd the system will ask for firmware (that's the case for ps3's with a 16 mb nand).
