Selfboot PS3 Backups now possible?
Selfboot PS3 Backups now possible? –

Please excuse any lack of in depth PS3 vocabulary, I've been away from the PS3 scene and am returning now due to the recent news. Anyways, shouldn't it be possible to have a selfbooting disc ala dreamcast? I realize that it makes more sense for advanced users to just boot everything from a huge extern USB HD however this really isn't exactly the best option for everyone. Instead of having a full scale backup manager which honestly isn't exactly safe or user friendly for stupid people(kids etc) would it be possible to have a dumbed down version of the loader that once you stick the disc in, its loaded as a data disc and it has a signed instance of a backup manager/bd emulator (which should now be possible with the private key) that is designed to ONLY mount whatever game image that is contained inside the specific disc folder. My 60gb ps3 was stolen but I'm going to buy another one today so my understanding of all the ps3 files is horrid however I've hacked the 360 hitachi drives with garyopa firmware(whom I've seen here) and dark alex psp cfw's and softmodded countless xbox's I just need someone else's more educated insight
Thanks a lot.

from my understanding ps3 is a whole other animal, your previous hacking experience won't mean much in this scen, as mine doesn't, just read and catch up really..

While it may seem like a nice concept and it is kind of hard for me to say if it would be possible since there is to say the least alot more work to be done in the scene before anything like that would be attempted. As it stands right now though that would not be possible for several reasons.
