Scratched Disc... Anyone got good tips?
Scratched Disc... Anyone got good tips? –

So I tried backing up the rest of my games last evening since we got some family(with lil kids... oh noooo!) coming to stay for a while. One of the games that the lil pests want to play is scratched a little. Does anyone know of some way to clean the disc up so I can get past my 30% (or to FTP the unreadable files) stall on back up? I've tried various B.U.M. and did some investigating via FTP. The 4 files left to FTP across are each in the 240 mb category so I'm assuming it could affect gameplay. One of those files will not even start transferring via FTP. Sorry bout the long post, but just trying to be as precise as possible. Any ideas guys???

I don't know if this is allowed in the forums, but since you own the game, I see no harm in downloading the game? or seeing if a friend has a copy or even forking the money over to rent. Normally I wouldn't tell anyone to download a game, but since you own the game already, I see no harm in downloading it. I sure wouldn't want to pay the money to buy the same game again (unless its cheap)

As of 1/26/2011:

im pretty sure were not supposed to talk about this. a scratched disk is very hard to get around though, so i can empathize with your situation. just dont go asking around here for torrents.
if its any aid, i found this link removed. good luck.
edit: thanks bitsbubba and sorry for originally spreading that ignorance. i did another search and couldn't find anything definitive. sorry op.

cd's and bdvd's have 2 different surfaces, what works for cd's does not always work 4 bdvd's it could make the problem worse

Yeah cheers guys, I kept the game title of my out thread specifically so there is no misinterpretation that I'm trying to 'find a download'. I just thought since quite a few of us own games someone may know a good DIY kit or may have done something outside the box to get around his/her scratches. Thanks for the input I might have to bite the bullet and do a Google search on a reputable DIY kit that hopefully works

my local Video rental store has a resurfacing machine, maybe you could call around and find one in your area

i have actually tried that, and i was wold by 3 places that they dont do ps3 and or bluray due to some special coating or what not, they say it could make it worse.
I guess the ps3 and bluray moveis are supposed to be scratch proof, to which i say somewhat, they are harder to scratch, but if you want to, oh hell yeah you can scratch them.

I actually resurface games as part of my part time job - unfortunately Blu-Ray discs cannot be resurfaced. Any that we have tried make the Blu-Ray worse and/or tear up our buffer. I don't personally know if they make any buffer that is hard enough to withstand the Blu-Ray coating, but if you find one definitely let us know!
