I hope this is in the correct forum, I assumed because its a game issue it belongs here. I own a US version of the ps3 slim. I live in Australia so of course anything i buy/rent borrow etc is usually in the PAL format, now having a SD TV (and a nice one so i dont plan on upgrading) I don't have the luxury of ignoring the PAL/NTSC issue when they arise.

Most games I've played on the console work fine as obviously the games arent region locked. However I recently purchased a copy of Oblivion GOTY edition. Which wont run giving me an error stating that it can't output at the selected video settings (its a known issue) So i used my copy of Resistance to play Oblivion as per some workaround I found online. (Basically consists of running resistance then ejecting the Disc, putting in the Oblivion disc and then quitting the game from its menu which in turn runs Oblivion without the error.

My question is, If i can run Oblivion by tricking it is there any way i can edit either the game itself or my ps3's firmware(?) so that I can just run the game without having to resort to an annoying workaround.

I mean the game runs fine, but the fact that I have to trick it into running means there is something preventing it loading initially that can obviously be overcome by loading up another game.

Has anyone heard about the workaround and knows what actually happens in the background to allow these games to play when the console stops them loading from the XMB??

Sorry if this is a bit lengthy.

Cheers
