I have a 2TB external, but after failing so many times trying to extract PSARC files, I've decided to keep the internal-only games on the internal drive. Can someone recommend a decent internal drive? I only need about 500gb, since I'm only using it for games that only work internaly. 5400rpm, of course. I'm hearing that some hard drives actually slow down the PS3, so has anyone had any good experiences with particular drives?

Got a Samsung Spinrite 500GB in mine. Been all good. No lag that I have noticed. 5400rpm. Paid £42.

I'd prefer if it's something I can get on Amazon, as I have Amazon Prime, and I don't see that particular drive on there. Would I be able to find an equivalent Samsung 2.5" that's good for the PS3 on Amazon though?

Yeh. Just go for any 5400rpm drive with a 8mb cache

My bad. Mine is called Spinpoint not Spinrite

    This one I got...

    Samsung SpinPoint HM500JI M7 2.5" 500 GB Internal Hard Drive - 5400 rpm - 8 MB - SATA (HM500JI)

Good drive IMHO for PS3. Good value too

What is the maximum capacity supported? I was thinking on buying a 2.5" of 1TB, would it be ok?

    I picked up this one:

    Amazon.com: Seagate Momentus 5400 500GB 5400RPM SATA 3Gb/s 8MB Cache 2.5 Inch Internal NB Hard Drive ST9500325AS-Bare Drive: Electronics

While on the subject of new hard drives though, I have some save files that won't allow me to copy them to a USB stick to back up. Can those be transferred to my new hard drive by FTPing the save folder? Or will it detect that I'm on a new hard drive and now allow me to access the save file in-game?

@Luriden: It'll work via FTP but you have to create the save files first on the new HDD. For example if you had 5 save slots used for a game, you have to backup those 5, put in the new HDD, start the game, save something onto those 5 slots and then replace the files with your backup via FTP.
At least that's how it worked for me.

Another method would be a full system backup.

Btw, this is mine: Samsung SpinPoint M7E HM321HI 320GB
