Quick question

Alrght my dad has a ps3 but just lately it stopped working, its not showing anything on the screen and when he powers it up it makes a weird crackling sound where the power input goes?

anyone have any ideas because im looking on google but all I can find is stuff about ylod and the fan.

Crackling sound near power input? Power supply issues perhaps? Any lights near I/O button?
