Quick NTFS Question –
04-13-2011,03:41 PM
Hello all. I'm finally to the point where though I wanted the convenience of backing up all of my disc-based games internally, newer games are coming out that I'm purchasing and can't play due to the signing, so I have to back them up also. Unfortunately, I have no more space on my internal. I was going to use my external 250GB, but I've heard rumblings of NTFS Support finally being coded in to some of these apps. Just as a question, is this fully compatible and on par with loading from the internal, or are there still problems with using an NTFS formatted drive to load backups? Please be verbose, as my understanding on the subject is limited...I know only that the NTFS drives remain write-protected, but that is inconsequential as the games only need to be read. And if NTFS is the better option, does Gaia manager have this support?

I just used this app to format my 320GB external to fat32 in about 30 secs on Win7. Give it a try.

Thanks a lot guys. Also, if you can't yet play them from the external...that's...well it's weird to say the least. What's this I hear about caching big files on the internal drive to play all games off the external?

Theres nothing weird about it.
1. Currently there is an ntfs driver that is supported by the backup managers.
2. This driver is NOT intergrated into the native xmb dash.
3. The dash is used to play games and therefor games cannot read from an NTFS drive.
Thats all there is too it.

Iris Manager for 3.55 and HManager 1.5 for 3.41 allows you to run games with files greater than 4GB from external. First you have to have the games +4GB files split using your manager or a piece of software like OpenSplit (if splitting from pc stored games) and transfer the game to your Fat Ext. HD. The cache big file feature of these managers will then cache just the +4GB files onto your internal drive to allow the game to be played. Once you have finished playing you can either leave the file(s) stored on your internal or remove it/them.
