    Hello i'm planning to buy a external harddrive and i have a quick question does the harddrive work if you need a ac adapter?

    im using a 2 TB western Digital External on my PS3 and it works fine. i think it would be better if the drive required an AC adapter

    not really, 2,5" drives don't need ac adapter, so they are more mobile (and quite smaller than 3,5" drivers).
    However, 3,5" drives are better choice in space/cost aspect, they are faster than 2,5", but they are big, heavy, and need an AC.

    Also, 2,5" drives are more quiet than 3,5"

    by better i meant it would be cost effective and providing more space for storage.
