PS3 games without a working Blu-Ray

Hello, I have a PS3 where the blu-ray drive on it is broken and I do not have the funds to fix it. I have been looking into running games off of the hard drive but every one I have come across requires you to have a PS3 game in the blu-ray drive.

Is it possible to run a PS3 game off the HDD without requiring a disc in the drive? Cause I have the discs no problem, but without a working drive, the PS3 can't detect them to begin with. Also, I have my PS3 modded with the kmeaw custom firmware. I have no dongle or anything like that. Once I get the funds to pay for a dongle (unemployed at the moment) I intend to remarry a new PS3 drive to this system.

on 3.55 iris manager prob has best discless compat.

If you really want the best discless a ps3 can do you'll be best to downgrade to 3.41 using QA flagging method. prob 80% of my games work discless on 3.41 using hermes manager

Nearly half the ps3 games work without a disc (also remember some require Direct boot or BD-EMU), also try what peppsi said above. Another thing is to search for working .pkg files on this site (or make them with deank's ebootfix in the Multiman packages) that will let you boot them from XMB menu w/o disc (P.S. not all work with this method).

Ok so I'm a big noob.
This thread is quite old so I was wondering If there is any new way to play all or most ps3 games from a broken disc drive. I have just bought an ps3 with a 2.8 firmware and I'm kinda clueless on where to start.
If anyone could guide me through the best process off getting your ps3 on cfw working online with psn and with games running through usb. (basically without a disc)

yea i'm kind of in the same boat. from my research its best to upgrade to 4.21 rebug, switch to DEX and use the bdemu on a flash drive, there's a tut on ps3hax dot net
