PS3 drive gone down......
PS3 drive gone down...... –

Hey guys, the PS3 drive has gone down on my bud's console. Rather than bin it and buy another one I suggested FTP'ing his 145 remaining games from PC to PS3.
Does anyone know if a backup requires a specific Blu Ray drive and can the game be pulled with any software - for example DVDfab?
Thanks

Some games will need a disc some will work without. Also depends whats wrong with the drive eg if its the drive or the board.
No no software to rip games will have to be done on another ps3

It's just stopped reading games, will do DVD's and PS2 but no Blu Ray's.....
So an internal Blu Ray drive on a PC wont read the games off?

That's right, the games need to be ripped through a PS3. I believe that the files on the discs are encrypted and they are automatically decrypted by the PS3. You might be able to get files off of the PS3 disc on a PC, but they would be useless as a back-up.
You can rip the games either through a back-up manager or through an FTP program, but the game has to be in a PS3.
The best bet for your friend is to get an external HDD, find someone with a hacked PS3 and rip all of his games to the external HDD.
