    Hey

Sorry for a bit of a "noob" question, but is it possible to run PS3 backups from BD-Rs? I read alot from the HDD but Id like to know if it is possible from BD-Rs.

On a side note, can the PS3 read BD-RE?

What would be the point in that? It is done through the HDD because if it is truely a backup, then that is the way most people would do it for reasons being it saves your laser, no need to get up and change discs all the time etc etc. The only reason I could think of anyone wishing to do a BD-R over a HDD backup would be piracy, and that isn't allowed on these forums.

If I have got it wrong then I apologise, I just don't see any valid reason why someone would choose disc over HDD. Using discs is the more expensive, and is more work than using the HDD. For the price of 10 BD-R discs, you can get a 500gb hard drive.

Well, BD discs are getting really cheap. And since some have compatibility issues with the backup managers, with the bd-r discs this compatibility problem should not exist, i.e. Assassins Creed 1/Sonic's UGC, etc.

I'm not saying that it's worth the trouble, just saying that it could be a side solution for those that want it.

My question on this matter is: Is it possible? and if yes, is it viable?

It's not possible. When you launch an EBOOT.BIN a check is done to make sure a valid disc PS disc is inserted, ruling out DVDs or even (lol) CDs.

Thanks for asking the question -- I was beginning to wonder if I was the only one thinking we've missed this ... it seemed like everyone was infatuated with the concept of running from HDD (with the obvious benefits).

Just a thought, don't really care but I wonder if in the future these checks could be hacked out and have it just run properly because all this eboot.bin modding is making my head spin -- I'm just waiting for a method that's so simple that even my GF could get a game to work from start to finish if I handed her the disc and a controller.

Thanks too for the current answer, C*

That turned out to be bullshit.

Webster install Kmeaws CFW. No more EBOOT.BIN modding required, you just mount backups via USB or HDD just like on 3.41.

I don't think the checks can be hacked out since they're at the drive level. Just like how the checks were never hacked out of the PS1 or PS2 (without hardware modding).

I think HDD beats BDVD, but USB can be worse than BDVD in some cases, although that could be because I have a portable hard drive without its own power supply.

Its not about point. Its about a choice. I think BD-Rs are better just because they more portable.

They arent used only for piracy; I hate people saying the PS3 has been hacked just for piracy. People need to get that out of their head.

I choose to run a BD-R backup. Thats it. All im asking.
