Wait... so you spent 300 dollars buying new blu ray drives (60x5), and then hours to remarry them desoldering/reballing the logic chip and soldering it back on? . I'd dump this ps3 and get a totally new one.
i never remarried the chip. there was no need to. I just swapped the boards.

And then I bought a Slim.
when you replace a bluray drive, do they have to be from the same model? Will a fat ps3 bluray drive work if hooked up to a slim ps3?
Last I read when you have a dead logic board and had to get a new drive it would not work due to remarrying problems. Has this changed then?

One question, do you smoke? I recently got a few ps3's to fix up and one of the drives from it had a yellowing tint on it so it was getting stained inside the ps3.
The laser was making the tick tick tick sound and the disc barely twitched, I thought what the hell and took the metal cover off the bottom of the laser and then theres another metal cover under that that covers the optical mirrors I think it is?
I took a q tip + some alcohol and basically pushed it inbetween the mirrors and cleaned by turning the q tip around while in between the gaps and then drying off with the other side. I did the focussing part and the laser head too.
Lo and behold after putting it back together it spun up the disc and has been working for two days solid, even installed a game from it.
Now I Tried it on another laser and it didnt work but I thought what the hell have I got to lose by trying this.
I was quite suprised!
These were kes400 lasers btw
No i do not smoke, but maybe the PO of the ps3 did.......... i will give that a try! yeah, these are kes 400 lasers. really crappy design. the lens wears out 2x as fast b/c both lasers are in the same lens >.<
