PLEASE HELP DRIVE DEAD?
PLEASE HELP DRIVE DEAD? –

Ok, so i was trying to back up mag when the PS3 froze. I pressed the FRONT power button, i took its time, beeped 3 times, then shut off. fine. on reboot, it no longer reads discs. Did I just burn another drive? This would be the 5th drive i've burned through. Please tell me I didn't kill it. When i put ANY disc now, it doesn't seem like its spins the disc. the laser just bounces 3 times click click click, and doesn't spin at all. Is there any way to fix this?

i have no ****ing clue. every time i swap in another drive, it lasts for 3 months, then dies. its like a timebomb. and they both suffer the same issue....... bouncing laser no spinning........ could it be my drive control board?

That happened to me on my basically highly unused br laser. I never even played any dvd's or cd's on it. Just a few ps3 games. No br movies. Then I went to backup one of my games in multiman, then BAM sayonara laser. No br/dvd/cd can be read so the laser was shot. Even though the laser was hardly used I guess a) it couldn't handle all the sudden work or b) it was just it's time to go (even if it was healthy and treated good with hardly any use). On another note, where have you been getting your lasers from?

system pulls. all of which where hardly used. I can't believe it. i used the PS3 ONCE A WEEK for no more than an hour a day. this is just bs. isn't there a way i can fix it without dumping another 60 for a drive?

No idea, but I can sure use a new deck+laser. I won't bother trying to back up my games again if it is this iffy and the laser dies so easy. Btw what were you trying to backup with? And what FW were you on?

3.55, attempting to back up MAG. it just killed my PS3. i wish there was some way to use the newer ps3 drive........... does any programmer think they can take this on? The metal gear solid BC 80gb PS3 used the newer type of drive with double lasers, which are MUCH less prone to failure. anybody think we can flash the firmware over?

Which 3.55 though? There are 5 CFW's out there. Also which backup manager were you using? BTW mine was a kem-410aca dual laser :P

That is kind of unsettling because that was what I was using, 3.55GeoCFW + multiman
