    Morning,

Long time reader, first time poster; I have looked and searched for this in the forum but not found anything yet.

I was wondering if it was possible with a Jailbreak to play backups from actual Blu-ray medias (as in Write Once or Re-Writable blu-ray disks 25/50Gb ?) as opposed to internal or external HDD?

Have got quite a few games that I had to buy 2or even 3times as the discs became damaged from my kids playing with them.

Just wondering really; would be a great option for me if I could copy my games and play with the duplicate copies, not with the originals.

    Cheers

IIRC, c4eva of Xbox 360 firmware fame is planning to create a firmware for the PS3's blu-ray drive that should allow this. Who knows when, or if, he'll be successful.

This would be nice seeing as with the cfw's that are being made they lack what allows the backup managers to alow mounting of the backups.

I am quite sure GeoHotz Custom Firmware does that inadvertantly. Playing of the hardrive maybe isn't made possible, however if he doesn't make it impossible to play original games of the Blue Ray to then disabling the checks for playing homebrew will make it possible to play the files burned on a Blu Ray disc since the Blu Ray drive is already mounted, However I doubt the custom Firmware will ever be relased because GeoHotz seem to like Sony, I bet he sees himself working there in the near future, and he is all four you paying 3-4 times for the same game, it's this way big companys make money they sell us stuff that breaks just after the warranty is expired so they can sell us some more stuff. They are getting better at it every year, I remember the old TV's you could use for 30 years without any probz, maybe at the end you had to hit it or kick it to get a picture. However today nothing is made to last more then 3 years no matter how expensive, maybe not cars but on cars they make o fortune on parts and service. however everything else computer like. On the old PS 3 you had to buy a new laser every year if you were a hard core player, the slim is little better but not enough, playing the games from hardrive is the only option to never need replacing a ps 3 machine ever again. I will never stop playing games from hardive, it's a shame I can't use originals of new games since they force me to update the firmware, the update should be optional, they force us who buy the games we like to download the patched games instead, because of that I see fewer games in the future since the company making the games don't get enough money to be able to take risks or to make sequals of the greatest games. I am a person who like my games just for show and never actually using them, they are like a receipt that I am supporting the industry, I don't have mutch time I acctually have more games then I have played however when I play them I play them of the hardrive, even when the 360 got hacked for playing backups I didn't really like it since it's such a hassle to copy every game, When I got my JTAGED Jasper I was satisfied, However I don't have kids and I understand they like to hold or touch their games and that is totally opposite to me. having them all on a hardrive makes it really neat, they can get broken, stolen or lost. Having them on disks somehow feels like piracy I hope hacker realize that. Letting us play our games of the hardrive stops the people making money on piracy and selling hard printed copys. Microsofts system was hacked from day one and they are still making alot of money. I believe when you can put your games on the hardrive then you close the door for the people that are selling pirated backups, it's harder to burn a game and because of that there will always be a demand for Pirated games, an empty Blu Ray disk cost like 1Euro and they could easily sell them for 10Euros printed with cover just like the original, thats 9Euros that the wrong people makes and that angers me. Thanks to the abbility to play the games of the hardrive they won't make that money because people can put their games on the hardive themselves, they don't even need to buy a hardrive because there is a hardrive from the start. That is one reason and the second reason is that my FAT PS3 is almost out of laser, something that should take secunds to load can take hours if it even loads, There is just enough laser left that it can recognize a PS3 game, I tried to put games on the hardrive without success, now I also bought a slim for the money I was saveing for a new laser, I am using it as a Blu Ray player so I would't want to use the laser up on playing games either, however I used it to backup all my games so I can play it on the FAT. It's a shame we need to worry about the laser, when you buy something new you like to hope it will last forever. with my old PS 3 I didn't plan for anything I had it on 24/7 instead of saveing I just paused the game, It's my second laser already so I know there isn't mutch left in it, Thanks to JailBreak I don't have to worry for that machine anymore, I hope there will come a linux with possibility to use XBMC so I can watch HD Movies without using up my laser either. I hope the hackers realize that Playing of the hardive isn't about piracy and implement this feature in the Custom Firmware, because if they just disable the checks then they open the door for the Piracy Big Boys who want to make money on selling Blue Ray backups. The only thing worst then Piracy is when the wrong people make money on others peoples hard work.

Beside all this I hope Linux will arrive Big Time, I am really hoping for a Linux Custom Firmware so We can use our PS 3 as a High Definition Player...
