Hi everyone, I have read through most of the threads regarding buying a jailbreaking dongle on this site and others, but I still haven't
been able to decide which device to buy yet. From what I've read, it appears that price (of course!) and flash memory are the main concerns,
since everything else is the same from dongle to dongle. Oh yeah, and there is the added question of the reliability of the company and
    shipping etc.

Could anyone recommend a good device that would allow me to update in future and that comes from a reasonably reliable company? Price-wise I
am prepared to pay for quality, and I don't mind waiting a little extra if it means it comes with no hassle. So far I'm thinking of getting
either P3Break or Cobra as I've heard good things about them.

BTW my firmware is 3.55 and I have a slim PS3.

    Thanks in advance!

If you must buy a dongle then Cobra USB hands down, you get more bang for your buck. also with the other dongle you get same results by updating to a CFW. as for company it really depends on your location and how long your willing to wait. (I myself have used practically every CFW, but I'm ready for more so I have a Cobra in the mail headed my way)

Hmm, is it really easy to install the custom CFW? If it is then I won't bother with a dongle. I'm not really good at tech stuff so I'm looking for the easiest solution possible, and I heard that most dongles are just plug and play.

If I install the custom CFW, I won't need to "switch" between CFWs right? As in, the custom one will be always resident in my PS3?

Its as easy as updating your PS3. Rebug installs from your XMB like a normal firmware.

He's new to cfw I don't think Rebug cfw would be the best choice for him he doesn't need all that extras.

So to answer your question If you want a dongle I'd get Cobra USB it has a lot of cool features other dongles and CFW don't have and If you have a backwards compatible PS3 Cobra USB makes use of that.
You could try 355 Kmeaw cfw, it's easy to install.

Ok, so you are on 3.55 OFW already
    Download Kmeaw CFW.
Put it in your USB flash drive on folder path like this “x:\PS3\UPDATE\PS3UPDAT.PUP”
Connect your USB drive to your PS3.
    Go to the System Update
    Pick “Update via Storage Media”.
    The rest should be obvious.
After you have finished the installation, your PS3 will boot. Now, you should see the “app_home” and “Install Packages” options.

When that's all done you will need a Back up manager I'd get multiMAN.

Nope no switching the cfw will always be installed unless you update the firmware.
If you have the cash I'd get the Cobra USB just for all the extra feature it offers that other cfw don't have yet, it comes with everything you need plus it looks cool
I'm on 3.55 Kmeaw right now and I'm thinking of buying Cobra USB.

EDIT: Just want to add If at anytime you want to go back to OFW all you would need to do is format then reinstall 3.55 OFW.

I just purchased the Cobra dongle. I am curious to see how well this thing works. I notice that it has its own firmware. I assume I will still be able to use multiMAN to load backups instead of the Cobra program. Or at least I hope so.

You don't need a dongle, they were rendered useless when the release of 3.55 CFW came out. A good firmware to start off with would be Kmeaw's CFW. As the others said it fast, easy and ta cheaper solution than buying a dongle. Also with up coming JFW cobra implementation will be implemented, so no need really
