The need for blu ray? –
01-19-2011,10:17 AM
Do you guys think booting via bluray will always be a requirement or will there be a method to boot without a disk in for more games? I was thinking of picking up a 2nd ps3 just for my firmware needs and keeping my real one for retail games only. Thanks.

Diskless booting has always been about a 70% success rate. I personally picked up a 2nd PS3, and I keep it completely clean of all JB stuff just in case my other console gets banned (I also like playing MW2/COD:BO on PSN). Just my .02

I hope not. My drive isn't working so right now I'm stuck using the eboot mod method. I don't mind that, I would just like to install some updates. Some games are pretty buggy w/o them.

If you upgrade to kmeaw's CFW, you'll get the app_home location, which is used for diskless booting. To use it, select the backup you wish to load in your BM, say no to direct boot if it asks (or turn off direct boot if using some managers), it will kick you back to XMB. Next goto app_home/PS3_GAME and sit on it for a second. You should see the game you selected show up. Press X to launch.

And if it doesn't boot from there that means disk is required correct?
