I was using multiman to backup Heavy Rain to my internal when I had realized I lacked about 3-4gb, so i aborted. Multiman asked me if i wanted to delete the partial file I said yes. After I returned to the main multiman menu I saw I only had 7gb left on my internal, but had 20 or so gigabytes prior to the backup.

So my question is where did my 13gb go, and how can I get it back?

    Thanks in advance.

something similar happened to me, but i didnt seem to find a way to recover that space, so im gonna backup all my saves, transfer all games to PC hdd, then format ps3's hdd since i miss the 30gb i lost, the problem is that is gonna take so much time that im too lazy to do it.

dont suppose either of you guys found a way of doing it without formatting?

i keep hearing formatting fixes it but on the down side i'll lose all my trophies

also heard about the file structure (or something like that) fix but also heard that doesnt always work and could lose stuff too

i dont mind deleting everyting on my ps3 (games are all on external except one and managers etc can be re-installed) in fact thats kinda what i want - i only want it to have game data installs, saves and trophies on there as its only 120gb and its full

dont even mind backing up all my game saves onto a pen drive

but i really dont want to lose my trophies as i havent sync'd them for months and would lose LOADS !!!

Don't mean to be a doomsayer but in most cases you won't see anything in File manager.

In simple language there appears to be a bug with jail-broken PS3s where for one reason or another (but especially when you get within 10GB of your HDD's capacity!), when you 'delete' data, the data remains and only the 'tags' which identify that data get deleted. The PS3, to all intents and purposes then thinks that data is deleted (i.e. it becomes 'invisible'), but it is actually all still there clogging up your HDD.

Formatting is the only sure fire solution but read the multiple threads on this subject in these forums before doing so as there's more you should save/back up than you might think. Even so, odds are you may lose your trophies.

The only potential prevention is to always leave at least 10GB on your HDD and to fix permissions (and not with multiman), BEFORE you attempt to delete anything. That said, if you've alread done the deed, you can try fixing permissions anyway and see if you get any space back.

As a very long shot, why don't you try re-installing the same game but abort much earlier and then delete.

    Good luck.
