A neat trick I found. This will stop the game from installing whenever you change acts.

1.) Run MGS4 and let it do the first install.
    2.) Find your MGS4 install folder (e.g. dev_hdd0/game/BLES00246/USRDIR)
    3.) Delete stage01.dat
4.) Copy all the stageXX.dat files from the mgs folder in the game disc (dev_bdvd/PS3_GAME/USRDIR/mgs/stageXX.dat) into the install folder

If you know how to create shadow copies with multiman and you have the full game on your HDD you can create shadow copies of the stageXX.dat files and the dbm folder to shave a big chunk of space off the install.

already did, u can do this for the entire instalation, less for 2-3 files that get decompressed isntead of copy over, but if u look at them u will notice it.

This is exactly what I was looking for!

Lol, I was thinking about making a program, that would automatically rename the stageXX.dat files into something else, so the game wouldn't 'find' them!

But this is a better solution! I'l try out! Thanks!

You can't, you can only shadow copy entire folders, seconds you can move delete some files from HDD to instal folder but not all since the game usess compresions so the files aren't the same inside the instal data folder, tried it ended up with data corrupt.

I did it with shadow copy a week ago and it's working great, no problems.

It's interesting that the files after install are decompressed, but it works with compressed files aswell.

After I saw the difference in file sizes I assumed that it's not that easy to do, but it suprisingly is.

just make the first instalation, then delete the compressed files on the game(back them up on your pc just in case), and replace everything with shadow copy files, same for the rest of the stages.
