Metal Gear Solid 4 on external

Any one could run Metal Gear Solid 4 on external?
it opens but hangs on New game screen
on internal i works fine.

Another question please , How to save game savings on external?

How about a look at compatibility list? The game has a file bigger than 4gb. AFAIK, you can't play it from external.

Game files were copied into external first and big files were spllitted.
I tried to run it from external but I faced the mentioned problem
so I tried to copy from external to internal using OM.
What I want to say is the same files are used.

OM read me says:
"How ir works:
Proper use of game installation (install game data) on external drive:

*Note: if the game is already installed on internal drive, delete it using Game Data Utility in XMB

1. Run Open Manager v2.1x
2. Select the game to be installed on the external drive and press SELECT to mount the external drive
3. Press X and launch the game from the disk icon or app_home/ps3_game icon
4. Follow game's installation steps and quit the game using PS when installation completes
5. Run Open Copy Install, select the installed game and press [] to mark on internal drive that the game as installed
(if this step is omitted, installation will be requested again every time PS3 is reset)
6. All steps done
"

If I understand well the game data can be stored on external. right?
but that way works with some games and does not work with others or may be it's game dependent , that's why I'm asking here.

All games store their game data as well as game saves on internal only. It's only up to you where to store backups (copy of a disc). Backups with big files have to be stored on internal in order you could successfully run the corresponding games.

May you check what Select button in OM2.1g does?
SELECT: Enables/Disables Loading game data from external drive

having game and game data in external is just for portability and saving internal hard space.

I could have some games -not all - with game and game data on external.
Some games didn't work from external at all , e.g Red dead, and metal gear solid 4
I just want to have a reason , may be I do something wrong.

Hm, I didn't know you could store game data on external, interesting.

How do you install the game data on external in the first place?

The game files are on external
Use OM
Enables Loading game data from external drive.
Enable Patch
Open the game
it will install game data
Open OM
disable Patch
Run it

note OM has some bugs
if you open the game and quit it and open om again some times you have an error
work around
Open "Open Copy Install"
exit
Open OM again and it will work

So, to install game data on external you need to enable the "loading game data from external drive" and patch mode, and install the game with those options, right?

Then, the description of the option, I mean it mentions only "loading", is a bit misleading.
