Metal Gear Hanging on Menu Screen

I have a metal gear backup and when I load it it gets to the menu screen where you can choose a new game and it hangs. The music still plays but everything minus new game is grayed out and I can't select "new game" either. If anyone has some insight I would greatly appreciate it. I have tried rogeros and mulitiman with the same results on 3.55 k .
