I've been moving a few back up games to a FAT 32 external HDD. So you can update the some of the games that I have provided before and also mark them that they also work on an external HDD--I guess it's safe to say that any game that works well in an Internal HDD that doesn't have a file larger than 4GB will also work on an External HDD (FAT 32), right?
I also noticed that some of theses games even though moved from the internal to external will require to install a game install--I find this weird, anyone has an explanation for this?
Anyways, here are the list of games that work well on the external: (note my other settings are still the same (i.e. payload and backup manager).

ARMORED CORE: FOR ANSWER
This game works fine for versus, tutorials and just about everything else, but once I try to play a mission in storyline mode, it freezes 2-3 seconds after loading into the stage. Tested both with and without disc, freezing persists.
BLAZBLUE: CONTINUUM SHIFT
Works great , without disc on Hermes v4b.

removing file ps3updat.pup from dir PS3_UPDATE doesnt seem to matter as long as one only delete this file and not the dir. the file is holding the firmware update for updating your ps3 and could be forced to run in future games/updates. So removing it is in my opinion a better precaution.
could you be nice and test:
The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault On Dark Athena (with or without online updates)
and
007 James Bond: Quantum Qf Solace (with or without online updates)?
