Internal vs External –
04-13-2011,01:05 PM
I want to upgrade the storage capacity of my PS3 and I was wondering if there is any advantages to have my backups stored on a external hard drive besides the obvious size advantage of external hard drives. So is there any advatage to external drives?

Anyone? I just want to know if storing the games on the internal drive is more compatible. I got a 500GB 2.5" SATA that I want to put in my PS3 but if I will end up needing an external drive then I will exchange that for an external instead.

Internal is always more compatible just for the fact of being able to store large files on it.

OK because when I saw this compatibility list it got me wondering if external drives might be the best option.

All compatibility lists are pretty out of date anymore. 99% games work from internal, about 89% work from external. But, w/ the ability to join split files in the PS3 cache w/ Iris Manager, the compatibility is about the same. Personally, I have a 1TB external and a 320gb internal (original 40gb phat). I find that's plenty of space to put any games w/ large files on the internal and store everything else on external.

That's the answer I was looking for. Sounds like the internal is the winner. Thanks for clearing it up for me.

best bet is a large internal with a small usb external for the few games that will only work from external sources.......................sudeki300
