Installing backups directly to XMB possible yet?
Installing backups directly to XMB possible yet? –

I know there are quite a few games that you can download directly from PSN or buy on disc, Burnout Paradise, for instance. With all the recent leaked keys, would it be possible to decrypt my Burnout Paradise disc, repackage and resign as a self and install directly to the XMB so it would work much the same as the downloaded PSN release?
Such a thing would render backup managers useless, correct? It would certainly cut some steps out of the loading process; right now I feel like it's just as quick to change games via disc rather than booting the backup manager, selecting the game, waiting for XMB to reload and then launching. I'd be interested to know if this is possible and/or if anyone is experimenting with it now.
Cheers,
McH

Would it be possible, maybe in the future.
Is it possible now, nope.
Make sure you butter the non reflective side of your CD's / DVD's and Blu-Rays so that when you drop them, they land butter side down thus preventing scratches.

It is very much possible now. Edit the EBOOT.BIN to not look at BDVD and be like whatever PSN games EBOOTs are (HDD?) and then edit the PARAM.SFO to make it a hard disk game. Package it up and install it, and it should work.
I have no idea how to edit an EBOOT.BIN or make a .PKG though, but it is very much possible right now. Furthermore this should allow all games to work discless, and will probably fix the 3.41 and less games that we can't working backed up.

Nothing against Math (legend). Next quote irrelevant to above lol.

That's pretty much the sort of thing I had in mind when asking the question, I was just hoping someone smarter than me could confirm it
I guess we need someone smarter than us both to actually do it, though

I eagerly await your tool for doing it if its just a case of changing a paths.

I realize they are completely different systems but a hacked PSP's ability to launch ISOs from the XMB springs to mind. Perhaps paths are relative and don't need changing? Or maybe CFW patches them on the fly; if that's the case I don't think PS3 CFW is far away now.

As I said I have no idea how to edit EBOOT.BINs, make .PKGs or make tools to make the process nice and easy. However for those that do have the knowledge it should be a piece of cake to make.
Anyway before we get to that stage it would be nice if someone would edit an EBOOT.BIN of preferably a non-working 3.41 or less game in such a way and see if it works or not, no reason why it shouldn't.

There was a package that was released when the PSJB was still fairly new that allowed you to install any game to the XMB as a icon. It took some editing of files, but it was very much possible, just a pain if you wanted to do it with your whole collection. Check the Latest News thread back in August/September and you should be able to find it.

There is a big difference between my theoretical method and the one you are reccommending. The one you are referencing simply uses a simple no GUI version of the backup manager to get the job done. If the EBOOTs are edited then it'll be actually launching the games cleanly without touching a backup manager. Compatibility should then be flawless.
