    Hi,

as ther title says, I don't understand the PKG updates... esp when using an external drive. Are the files on external patched when I run the .PKG? Do I need to run the game from external first, then install the .PKG update?

As an example, Motorstorm: Apocalype. According to the compatability list:

For v1.0: Requires PKG file or modified eboot. Install v1.1 update will downgrade eboot to 3.50. Updates works up to v1.03; v1.04 requires 3.60 FW

I didn't overwrite the eboot manually, instead I installed the 1.03 update.. and the game refused to run. I thought I could kill two birds with one stone, ie update and fix the eboot to work on my 3.55... but where does it downgrade the eboot? Because the eboot on my external was unchanged.

Very happy to hear someone explain all this, thanks!!

Updates are installed in dev_hdd0/game then under the respective game ID (this is also where game install data is placed). In the newest multiman pick the game push square and look in the top left to see if it says ver. 1.03. Also i would try installing the updates sequetially to 1.03 so install 1.01, 1.02, 1.03. you can uninstall the update on the xmb screen by going to game, game data utility and looking for the update hit triangle delete.

I wondered the same thing, then I realized that the external/internal back ups would definitely not be touched because the PS3 thinks that it is a BD-ROM (which cannot be written to).
