How Do I load a patch file?

Sorry for the question but I'm new to this, I have been trying to play my backup of socom 4 but my multiman does see it on my external HDD. I've been reading ang it says to load patch file but I dont understand how can some please detail the instructions please. I 'm using 3.55 and multiman 1.16.

put the patch file on a usb stick,put it in your ps3 then install it from install package folder
