Help, I need some backup, eboot, pkg, sfo clarity.

This backup thing is confusing when using the search button. I get info going this way and that way and I don't know what is what. One guy says he backs up and makes no mention of modding anything, another is looking for eboot's and pissin and moanin that no one will make them for him. Even more confusing I am reading about pkg and sfo and I am like WTH???

Look, I want to learn, but I need to know what I need to learn to search effectively. Can someone please explain what all these things mean and what I need to be looking into? I don't want to have to ask someone to make this or that if I can do it myself. I am willing but give me some direction maybe point me to some instructions/tutorials/posts on how to do it myself, assuming its readily available.

I am on kmeaw 3.55 w/multiman. I know how to ftp, I am JB'd and can get games back and forth but what is up with the rest? Thanks in advance for your patience and I apologize if this has been asked a million times.

The rest is old information from the 3.41 JB, and then the 3.55 Geohot time. Almost all of it has no merrit anymore if you're on 3.55 kmeaw. What you need to know at this point is, as long as your backup is original from a disk, you shouldn't have any issues with it unless it's been marked as not working (and most of those have been fixed by storing the game on external (as long as the files are under 4gb) and using select + x to load it in multiman latest version).

basically to answer a few of your questions
if you are on kmeaw firmware then using the original disc with the original eboot will work in the majority of cases unless u got it from an alternative place and then it could have any issues as to why its not working
the reason you are seeing people asking for modded eboots is they are still using 3.41 firmware which requires eboot modding to play
other people may be asking for original eboots as they have updated to 3.55 jb and now need to replace the old modded eboots with these
.pkg files are for playing the games directly from the xmb but require a lot of file movement in order to work i thnk its used to play games discless
the sfo file u are referring to i think is the param.sfo and use to require manipulation in order for games to work on old firmware
as chesh said forget the old posts if you are using kmeaws cfw and if you get an issue with a specific game search for it on this site or use google

Aah, nice explanation, Thanks. In the future, when games are requiring firmware 3.6 or 4.0 or whatever, will eboots be back or is that just the workaround for 3.41 and something new will need to be developed. Just asking to find out if learning about eboots is still a good idea.
