GTA IV Black Screen Issue?
GTA IV Black Screen Issue? –
12-26-2011,01:20 AM
Hey guys. Yesterday I got my new PS3 for Xmas. I installed 3.55 kmeaw on it and then installed Multiman 2.09.02. I installed the EBOOT fix "UP0005-BLUS30127_00-0000001112222666 .pkg", which then created a new folder called GAMES in the root called BLUS30127. Then I dragged over the copy of GTA IV that I downloaded into that same folder so that the fix folder and the game would merge, but I told it to ignore any files with the same name (so the patched files wouldn't be overwritten). When I open up Multiman and choose GTA IV, then go back to the home screen, the game just starts to a black screen. Actually there are 2 GTA icons, one that is just a plain disc icon, and the other has the actual GTA logo. I made sure to have another PS3 game disc in, so that can't be the problem. I've tried Select+X and that didn't do anything (expected since apparently it's only useful with external drives). I've redone the process incase one of the files didn't transfer but it's still not working. Can anyone help me out with this? I'm pretty much a noob at this so I don't know what to really do.

Well a few things that are goofing you up off the bat I can tell you. Dont merge files created from a PKG with files created after your ripped the game. Those should be two different folders. A PKG file is like a PSN update file for the game most likely which will be normally installed in the "GAME" folder, not "GAMES". Think about it like this...
"GAME" folder - is for Game DATA installs only or sometimes PSN games are installed their
"GAMES" folder - is the storage folder on either your internal or external HD where your backups are stored after you rip them.
If I was you I would delete your packages you installed or just wipe that specific folder and start over. Rip the game, boot with disc in tray, let game data install, exit, install the PKG, and then try booting the game as normal.
Also I am not sure which version you have. I am not sure exactly the steps needed for booting with GTA 4 regular edition but I do know that most info that I read says that GTA 4: The Complete Edition can only be ran from an external HD using the BD-Mirror option in multiman. This was also my method of success. I believe regular version you may need a disc in the tray and if I remember correctly messing around with that one, I think I let it install game data on its own before applying the patch. Then after that it usually booted as normal. Hope some of that helps.
As far as I know, my ps3 has never had an undetected error.

Okay I'll try that. I think I might've done that already but maybe I got so caught up with all this other crap that I've been messing it up this whole time.

Ah okay. What exactly do you mean by let the game data install? This might be something that I missed from the sounds of it.
I'm just using the GTA IV regular edition.
It sounds to me like using an external HD is a lot easier than using the internal HD, maybe I should considering buying one

I was able to get Saw working fine. I see what you meant now by letting the game data install, I never made it to that with GTA IV, it just started with a black screen. I've deleted all of my GTA data, patches and all, and now I'm ftping it over again. Will keep you updated...

Nope, black screen
I did the same exact thing as I did for Saw. What could be the issue here?!
Edit: should I update GTA IV? In Multiman it gives me the option to update it. Could that fix the issue?
Edit 2: Updating didn't work
neither did fixing permissions in Rogero. This is really frustrating. Do you think the version of the game that I downloaded was bad? It said it was for US consoles :s

Got COD Black Ops working with the 3.55 patch... now the only game that isn't working for me is GTA IV :/ what the hell is going on here?! This is actually pissing me off. I've been trying this for the past 2 days and nothing is working. Do you think I should just download a whole new rip?

Well it must've just been a bad rip I guess, I downloading a PAL copy of GTA IV: Complete Edition, used a patch, and got it working fine on the internal hdd of my PS3. Thanks for the help anyway
