GT5 Load Speed INTERNAL HDD vs Internal + INSTALL??
GT5 Load Speed INTERNAL HDD vs Internal + INSTALL?? –
01-03-2011,04:58 PM
I have a very simple question... when playing my backup of my legitimate copy of GT5 from my internal hard drive, Is it necessary to use the game's install feature?
How do the load times compare between running game from internal drive with disabling the install feature, and running the game from internal drive and using the game's install feature?
Has anyone tested this? I am in the process myself, but wanted to save myself some trouble and hard drive space if possible.
Anyone else done any testing? Another thing I was wondering about... with 1.00 decrypted eboot.bin, is it safe to update the game to version 1.05? or will it break?
Any help, input, or links to further reading would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you in advance...

Right now I have GT5 on two ps3s. I've played through the game maybe 20 hours with all the game data installed, on a 3.50 ps3. The load times were much better than without the game data installed, but still annoying.
I've recently ripped my game to the internal drive, and install the complete data as well. Everything runs MUCH slower than the game on the 3.50 console. My only thought is maybe there's an issue with running the game from the hard drive, while also reading the installed game data from the hard drive at the same time. It seems like the hard drive cannot read fast enough to keep up with it, but honestly that doesn't make much sense to me.
I've since deleted the installed data on the 3.41 console, and the loading speeds seem about the same as with the data installed. It's still much slower than my 3.50 console.
Unless my hard drive is an exception, I probably would just not install the game data. There are a few other games that I've run into the same problem--the only fix was to have the game ripped to the external, and install game data to the internal. But that is not possible with this game, as it cannot be placed on a fat32 device.
Until someone decrypts the eboot that comes with the patch, you will just get a black screen. I've tried using the decrypted 1.00 eboot, and replacing the eboot from the patch (hint: after installing the patch there's a new eboot, in a separate directory from the original) and it resulted in a black screen.

With any game that is copied to the internal HDD I would advise against any optional install. It is faster for the hdd to read one continuous string of data (the copied game) than trying to access 2 pieces of data at the same time (game + install). However sometimes games are optimized to feed the processor 2 pieces of data at the same time but from different places (blu-ray + HDD). Usually the overall faster speed of the hdd makes up for this fact.
TLDR: never do optional installs on any backed up game on your hdd, they usually make it slower.

I play without install (no install option), and the game run pretty fast.

I think this might be an exceptional case though, since we know that the game likes to install tracks to the HDD even if you're playing from the Blu-Ray. So I think it might be ok to install this game and play backed up, and expect faster speeds.

Nothing against Math (legend). Next quote irrelevant to above lol.

I've done the install. Maybe it's placebo but it seems like loading times are faster than Blu-Ray with install. It's definitly faster than running the game from hard drive without install, since it doesn't have to unpack the tracks everytime.
EDIT: I remember back when MOH was cracked to be running a backup manager came out at the time that allowed the game data tobe installed to an external USB device. That will probably make the game load even faster! (Unless the gamedata is allowed on the USB only if the game is booted from the USB also?).

This is my theory, my theory is that installing just copies some files to the HDD (no compression un-compression). Basically, if you install the game, the PS3 will be reading the data from 2 different paths from the HDD, in most of the cases (Super Street fighter IV and BlazBlue) the loading becomes worse. If you read the game from External HDD and install the data in the internal HDD, in theory the loading speed would be better, since the PS3 will be using 2 different sources with different loading speed. Of course, this is my theory, in some games I proved them right, but don't know in the rest.
