Not necessarily.. you can move the game installs from your "game" folder to the GAMEI folder and then in gameDATA mode or EXT GAME HDD mode install the fix pkg (which most of the time its a very small file than the larger game pkg). If the PSN game only has one file, then you will be stuck having to install them in gameDATA mode--you will need to delete them from your internal HDD first.
Just make sure the games you are trying to run on external HDD are compatible. Click here for more details: http://psx-scene.com/forums/f187/com...ta-tool-99823/ (Compatibility List: Playing PSN Games on a USB HDD w/gameDATA Tool) and also a tutorial on how to go about doing this.. )

Yes, to the GAMEI folder.
If you don't have two separate pkg installs for those PSN game, then you will have to install the full pkg in gameDATA mode. The trick is to install it through the XMB so it creates an icon and etc in the PS3's database, or else the icon won't show and then you won't be able to launch the game. For those PSN games that you have two or more PKG installs, but one is just the fix--usually a very small pkg file, it makes it easier to install that small pkg after you already moved the bigger game from Internal to External HDD using a either multiMAN File Manager or other (ftp and etc.)
Do baby steps first, do one at a time, I am pretty sure that during this process you will learn to understand what I mean.

so i figured it out thanks, but where is MI data installed?
or do i have to reinstall MM in ext mode for it to access it ext and the hdd to play games and have the game install data?

No, don't install MM on your external HDD!
I believe that when you say MI, it means Mandatory Install? On your Internal HDD it's inside the game folder. Not GAMES nor GAMEZ.
In your External HDD it is installed in the GAMEI folder. (if you only use gameDATA you need to find which external HDD is seen as your USB000 HDD. If you use my own hack "EXT GAME DATA LOADER by Jay-Jay" then you can install the PSN Games on any External HDD you have connected (great for those that use a hub and have several FAT32 HDDs connected always on their PS3).

yes mandatory install
so i found the MI files in game and created a folder name game on my ext and move the MI install over.
basically what im asking is.. im trying to move them off my int to save space but also to have everything run from external.. or is moving MI to ext only for backup purpsoes?
transformers war for cybertron requires MI.. i can run Trans on ext but it installs data on Int.. basically i want to move the trans MI to ext and have the game run all entirely ext
is that possible?
****
so i opened multiman and hit square and notice ext game data option. when i checked that for trans and booted the game. the game went back to xmb but in game data usb mode and i can load trans. but when i booted up trans it still asked for the install when i had already moved the MI in my ext game folder.

Well, see, now you are heading to where I am the least experienced. I don't know if all PS3 Retail Disc Games are all compatible for their MI data to be off an external HDD. I can only give you advise to PSN Games. The rest, you are on your own. Look for compatibly lists to see if that will work or not on all games. Just keep in mind that in multiMAN, you need to enable the game option feature called: EXT GAME DATA in order for this to work. And also keep in mind that you must keep the GAME backup and it's MI on the same external HDD for this to work correctly. I am more than convinced that the game will want to install the MI on it's own when you launch it. So you may be wasting time trying to move them, when it will attempt to install the MI all over again--this happens when you move around the position of the EXT HDD -- order. So I am sure this will happen to you. Like I said before, test one at a time, take baby steps before you go on moving lots of folders without at least testing one at the very least.
And you are not paying attention. The folder needs to be named GAMEI on your external. Focus on my spelling!!!!!!!! I linked above a link earlier in one of my recent replies. In that site, there are more links to tutorials to use EXT GAME DATA LOADER by Jay-Jay and gameDATA2--I suggest for you to read closely both of them. You will need to understand how they work.
If you have your external HDD and you install the gameDATA v2, it should create automatically this folder on all your connected External HDDs. So there is no need to create the folder yourself.
Here are the apps in case you need them--make sure you have the latest version of gameDATA v2 (v1 is outdated):
