is the .PUP file in the GAMEZ/BLES00---/ps3update folder of backed up games the same for every game or are they different every game?
It's the version of firmware that is needed to play the game. Ex: GT5 was compiled with the 3.50 SDK, so the update on it's disk is 3.50. COD:MW2 was compiled with the 3.40 SDK, so the update on it's disk is 3.40. So on, so forth.
ok thanks... i have got a game and the folder is empty. it wont load so i should be able to copy the .pup from another game and it will work then?!?
You should be able to delete the UPDATE folder as it's only needed if you're not on the right firmware. My guess is, this is a downloaded game, and it's either incomplete, corrupted, or been patched to run on a different firmware. If any of those are true, it's not going to run.
so if a game has been patched for say fw 3.41, it not as simple as change the .pup in the update file to get it to load on 3.55? if not how easy is it to patch the game to my fw? thanks for replys
That's not what allows it to run on 3.41 or 3.55. That's a failsafe in the game disk that if your PS3 isn't on the firmware that is required to play the game and you don't have internet, it can install the necessary firmware from the disk. Once again, if this is a downloaded game with modified files, you're going to have to find an unmodified backup in order to get it to run.
ah so i will need to find unmodded eboot then. ty:)
