One of the games i ripped has over 1500 files and with my current FTP client, FlashFXP, it only uploads one file at a time which is very slow.

Is there some method or client that has multi threaded/multiple connections, or some way to tar and untar to avoid the overhead from transferring large numbers of files?

Come on guys.....use the search function.....
All these FTP questions has been answered already.

1..if you are using a wireless connection, you are guaranteed to get crappy speeds FTP'ing.Speeds are going to be ranged between 30kbs to 1.5mbs if you are lucky

2...if your ps3 is part of your network and its on a regular 10/100 router or switch using cable, you are going to get speeds of about 5mbs to 10mbs.

3...if you connect your ps3 directly to your PC's LAN port and your motherboard supports gigabit LAN,you are going to get speeds of 25mbs to 30mbs.

There is no viable way around this 3 options,so based on your network or pc set up,this is what it is.
Remember, the ps3 has gigabit NIC built in so option 3 is the best unless you have a gigabit network in your house or set up.My set up is option 3 using flashFXP,I hope this helps.

<sarcasm>Thank you for reading the POST and TITLE </sarcasm>. Thanks but the question is how to workaround the overhead for a large number of files.

Rar the entire folder. Use megamanager on megaupload if you are trying to share them.

    Google is your friend.

Try using the search function instead of littering the message boards with questions that have been answered 10+ times.

    FlashFXP can do multiple files.

I suggest reading the Help menu.

Ive read the help menu and best that I can see is creating new sessions to the same server with the same queue - but this method can be erroneous in that if 2 sessions attempt to upload the same file, it continues to do so and screws up.

Anything else in the help menu eludes me.
