since I wasn't here until 3.56 came out (lucky I got a ps3 with a very old firmware, 2.10) I am not really sure what that eboot does (or what it did). By searching on google and here, I get all kind of post explaining how to modify it, how to find it, but not what is it. I assume it's some kind of boot file, but a boot file that do what ? help 3.41 user ? I'm just trying to understand more about that file.

"EBOOT" is the meta file format whose specification describe how to initialize the stored information.
By definition, it's an algorithms which provision the linkable interface to allow the communication and exchange of data content ( for a deeper understanding of it's content see: ELF File Format ).

thanks for the info. is it 3.41 that need those modified eboot? or maybe it's when we had to use usb jb dongle that we needed them? or do we still need it with cfw 355 with some game (the game I backed up didn't required any modification on my end it just work)? or maybe the backup loader do that automatically that why I don't have to modify them?

no need for dongle, just cfw 3.55 and unmodified files, not the modified ones that where needed for 3.41
