I see your point, but it has a flaw.

This discussion is about having to have a boot disc or not. One boot disc works for all games. Now that's only for jailbreakers. For people who have a legit system, each disc is it's own game. So for argument sake, let's say you turn on your PS3 to play 2 games.

    Legit console:
Lets say there is no game in the console on startup.
    - Load your first game, when you're done you eject it.
    - Load your second game, when you're done you eject it.
    Loads: 2
    Ejects: 2

Jailbreak console (still using power.eject combo):
Let's say there IS a game in the console on startup.
    - Turn on PS3, ejects game.
    - Return disc into PS3
    - Use same boot disc for all games
    Loads: 1
    Ejects: 1

The only time you're console will be doing more ejecting and loading while in jailbreak is if you compare it to a legit console with the game already in it on startup. You play the game, and then turn off the PS3. Zero loads & ejects.

    lol subject change

As for a response, I will take a hit of my pipe and agree, with the phrase "I concur" as I twirl my mustache.

It's quite convenient to be able to have your entire library of games that you can boot up immediately.

Also, booting games off of the HDD is a lot less harsh on the PS3. It won't wear down on the laser and also it runs a lot cooler, and I prefer to have my hardware running as cool as possible.

    edit:

And this is more a personal reason, but I cringe every time I pop a game out of the case. Always feels like it might snap.

I have a Slim, and I don't like the drive spinning sound, it increases total PS3 noise level to 2-3x. Also it increases the wear on drive. And also if you want to put a movie or play another game with it's disc, you don't need to restart PS3 in order to use real BD-R, because only apphome is mounted, bdvd path is not mounted(at least in latest multiMAN).

Stable discless mode is a needed element I think.

everytime you run a game with BD disc inserted = the disc spin for 10mins

the disc spins = it wears out lifespan of the drive.

    you != me

you have money for repairs != we dont have money for repairs

many reasons why they say that... you're just being inconsiderate.

People have a lot of different reasons...

For me it's that I only have 2 games. 2 games which are imported from japan and weren't exactly cheap.
It was really great for me that backup loaders became a reality a few weeks after I bought my PS3 + the imports so I don't have to use the actual discs any more than needed.

    Completely agree with that.

Is there any way, if we are obliged to have a disc in drive, to stop disc from spinning, or at least lower the timeout period from 10 minutes to f.e. 30 seconds?

When you have a disc in and boot off the HDD/USB, the drive will spin down after like 5 mins. However even so I just love launching it without having a disc, just feels nice and smooth. Just like how I haven't put a UMD in my PSP for years =P.
