disc-less play

Hi, I read a lot on the forums about how some games are not playable if there is no disc in the blueray drive.

My question is if I have made a backup of my game to internal harddisk and it requires the game disc to be in the drive, then how the backup is helping me in preserving my game disc (preventing wear/tear of my original game disc) or saving my laser.

Basically, my intension for backup was saving the laser and preserving my original game disc but if it has to be in the drive, the whole purpose is lost.

When running a backup, the PS3 laser is not used during play, only the initial boot to make sure there is a disc in the drive.. Only the HDD is used while playing. Go grab a crappy $5 game (I got Eye of Judgement at Gamestop for free-- They were going to trash it) and I've been using that to load all of my backups.

well u can put whatever game in the bd drive so an old sports game will do.
the game actually does play off the hdd and quicker loading time. when u put a game in the bd drive, it does not spin the disk the entire time.

the responses are not helpfull. the thread says. disc less.. Stop saying what you should do, we all know it needs discs. but what aobut the people that have a broken bd drive?

We all know you can use discs in the drive to bot Stop saying it..!!!!!!!!!!!

It would be nice if somone like me who has a busted bd drive be able to play black ops or world at war without a disc in the system.

Sorry, not going to happen. Those games have a check to make sure some form of disk is in the BD-drive, and redirecting the drive to a virtual location isn't enough to fake it out, as it's obviously looking for the blu-ray security sector on the center ring of the disk. So, unless you know someway to program that check out of the system, you're stuck needing a disk for those games.

Or, you could learn to read. He asked if his BD Drive laser will be used while playing backups since he is concerned about laser life, not how he can play backups with a broken drive.

You know you could just replace the blu ray drive laser... it's not rocket science.

I can play black ops/ mw2/ fine off the xmb menu with PKG file. They work.. mw2 even works online. black ops i can only do single and zombies solo,

so Why are u saying it will never happen. it happend to MW2 and it works flawlessy

It is VERY possible to run a game that you need a disc in bm to run on xmb with modified eboot with NO DISC

EDIT: i dont want to spend 90 dollers on something im not gona use, and i know it works without a disc so maybe ill patch it.

Yeah, but that's reinventing the wheel. How many packages have you seen released since CFW came out? How about when the next update for MW2 comes out and it has NPDRM encryption? You'll be shit out of luck.
