Did GeoHot overlook the XMB backup method?
So last week GeoHot was going on about how backups will not be possible on his 3.55. He was thinking about the lack of syscalls and how games couldn't be mounted 3.41 USB exploit style. Do you guys think the EBOOT.BIN path modification method eluded his thoughts when he made his comments? :chinscrat
I can't help but think despite his intelligence and skills, he seriously thought that his custom firmware was going to be backup proof. Unless he knew all along and was trolling; laughing as people lamented the lack of backup support.
But then his blocking of lvl2 editing suggests he was confident backups would not be possible, not to mention he hasn't released the NPDRM decrypter. Why would he know he was opening BDVD game piracy, but block PSN piracy? Unless it was a lesser of two evils and homebrew would not be possible without opening up the possibility of BDVD backups.
If he had known could he have blocked it the same way he restricted lvl2 modification?
