Hi guys, I was wondering if I could plug the internal PS3 hdd to my computer and just load the game dumps there? With SATA it would be a lot faster.

I know there is a way to do it with the FTP app, but is that the only way?

    Thanks guys!

AFAIK you cannot read the ps3 internall hdd on the computer.

However the best way now is to run the latest psgroove (hermes) along with open manager.

Extract your games to an external hdd and then you can copy via open manager to internal works a hell of a lot faster than FTP.

If a game has a file bigger than 4gb use comgenies filesplitter to shrink it and when you transfer to internal it will automatically join the split files.

If you got the 640gb Samsung m7e on newegg for $57 (great deal $130 like 3 months ago) you have to use ESTOOL to change umdma mode to 1.5 sata instead of default 3.0 or videos and or audio stutter from internal. There's post about this, I only mention it because thats the drive I got. ESTOOL link

BTW don't forget to use the ps3 backup utility as some saves are protected and won't copy over to new drive unless you use the backup utility. Most importantly Demon Souls ( I haven't done this though, has anyone done this and go it to work)

    Thanks

Thats exactly the one I got! =)

I will do that then. After I do that, I just format it again on the PS3?

I don't mind about saves though, is it okay if I dont do it?

Thank you so much for letting me know ;D

"Select the proper UDMA mode by selecting UDMA MODE (33/66/100/133 is changed by pressing Enter Key) and perform PROCESS by pressing Enter Key."

Which one of those do I use? =\

If I formatted the new HDD on the PS3 (installing the PS3 OS and all) how do I run the ESTOOL on it? It seems that my computer is not recognizing the HDD, just on the BIOS. But not when I run the ESTOOL, or check on windows, or partition magic...

    What do I do?

As Muffy stated, your PC wont read the PS3 internal drive, that includes any replacement you bought once formatted in the PS3.

You need to use the ESTOOL before you format it in the PS3, if already formatted then fdisk or diskmanager it back to work on the PC, use ESTOOL then format it in the PS3.

But how can I use those programs if the hard drive won't even show as a device? There is no way I can select it to format, since it's not listed...
