Can any PS3 backup managers backup PS2?
Can any PS3 backup managers backup PS2? –
Greetings all. Long time lurker, first time poster.
I'm in the process of snagging a launch 60GB PS3, and I was wondering if any of the backup managers in active development and circulation have the ability to back up PS2 games? If not, is there any other method of running PS2 backups off of this console that doesn't involve Swap Magic?
Also, is there any feasible way to get my PS2 saves off my memory card and onto whatever will be running backups? Apologies for my relative n00bness. :P
Two ways i can think of to get your game saves:
1. If you have one of those old school cheat database discs laying around (i.e. gameshark or action replay max) and you have the dongle that connects to your pc through USB you can use that to get them to your pc and thus to your ps3 through FTP or whatever method you prefer from there on out.
2. you can get the ps2 memcard adapter for the ps3 which will allow you to copy them over.
If i was you i would buy a replacement for that internal hdd. 60GB will hold a decent amount of ps2 games but if you decide to rip any of your ps3 games that 60GB will be gone FAST! seriously it would only take like 2 or 3 games to fill that up. Not to mention many games install additional data to help keep load times and such to a minimum. As for backup managers im rlly not sure. I just installed one and it worked so i left it at that and didnt ask any questions lol. Maybe some veterans around here can help you with that part.
One more bit::Even if the managers dont work right now for ps2 backups dont fret. This scene still has a lot of growing to do and there will likely be a solution for that in no time. If it is a must i know how to get the backups up and running on a ps2 so just send me a msg or something.
I've already got an external HDD to store all my backups on so I'm not worried about the internal HDD running out of space. But if I did want to swap it out, are the HDDs compatible between the phat and slim PS3s?
multiMAN has an experimental PS2 Backup loader. You can't backup directly with multiMAN however, only with FTP.
You have to copy the files from the DVD to a new folder in your PS3 backup folder.
Example if your PS3 Backups are in "/dev_hdd0/GAMES" and want to copy Ape Escape 3, you make a folder "/dev_hdd0/GAMES/Ape Escape 3". Then copy all the files in it.
Then you just do these steps:
1. Put a original PS3 game
2. Load the PS2 game backup
3. Eject your PS3 game and put a original PS2 game
4. A PS2 Game icon should appear in the GAMES category.
I'm trying to do this but it fails always saying that it can't find the eboot.bin file... for some reason
Yeeah... MutiMAN says it has experimental support, but it seems to have NO support whatsoever for PS2 backups. I've tried for half a day to get any PS2 backup to work and I get that eboot error also.
Hopefully backup managers will have PSOne, PS2 and PS3 backup support for those with 80GB Backwards Compatible PS3's and older (there are a lot of us out there!). All I really want the backup support for is so that I can play imports like "NiGHTS" for the PS2 which was a graphical update to the Saturn classic. Right now I can only play it on my chipped PS2
P.S. for your game save problem, you need this official Sony gadget:
